Best Bone Broth Recipe for Dogs and Cats: When your pet does not feel well or has no appetite, one of the best things you can feed it with is the broth, and it also works for you.

Soups are very good for pets that are recovering from a major operation, who are sick or who simply are not quite right. By giving them a meal that is nutritious, delicious, and full of easily digested natural minerals and vitamins, you help the body focus on healing and not digestion.
It is also a great solution if you are saving because it is an easy way to give your pet a cheap, nutritious, and healthy option to boost your immune system since the broth is a medicine in itself.
Some of the basic things in which the bone broth can contribute are problems in the intestine (it can help restore the good bacteria), help with allergies, reduce inflammation. Improve the immune system, hydrate, give proteins to the muscles, detoxify the liver, help with kidney problems, increase collagen to help delay aging, tumors, and arthritis.
Some of the natural minerals and vitamins that your pet (and you, if you want to take too) can obtain are glucosamine, gelatin, sodium and potassium, essential amino acids that can help regenerate cartilage and heal joints. Help with body detoxification with glycosaminoglycans and hyaluronic acid. The benefits that your pet can get from bone broth are many, and it is worth getting used to cooking it once a month for us, cats, and dogs.
These recipes last over time, and some of the best bone soups to help cure your pet are the most basic and the least ingredient, but they are rich in nutrition thanks to the bones. Over time, you may want to add other ingredients, but find out if they are appropriate for your pet. It is essential that you do not throw the bones in the trash, but that you store them and use them for the broths.
You can combine different bones. I usually use chicken and beef to mix the flavors and nutritional elements. The best Bone Broth Recipe for Dogs are left to cook slowly for a long time so that the bones soften and break enough so that all the properties also pass into the water.
Basic Bone Broth
If you can, using bones of various animals, such as chicken, beef, turkey, and goat. And if you can put chicken legs, better yet, because they have a lot of chondroitins that helps with joint pain.
The perfect broth, once it cools, is generally left with a consistency similar to that of a jam. So you have to try to have the ideal amount of water and bones. Fill a saucepan with enough water to cover the bones.
Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar so that the bone breaks and releases nutrients. Before adding the bones, I stirred a little so that the vinegar penetrates the water.
I put the bones in a large saucepan. (If they have some meat, it’s okay because you can give it to your pet as the main meal).
Slowly, I boiled the bone mixture, then lowered it over low heat and let it simmer for 12-24 hours.
You will see that a kind of foam is formed above, which is normal. You can take it out, but I usually leave it because it contains some of the first layers of nutrition.
(If the bones you used are not organic or naturally fed animals, it may be better to remove the foam because it could have some of the animal’s toxins because of its industrial diet.)
The meat and skin are going to peel off the bone. You can strain it and give it to your pet when it is cold and leave the leftover mixture aside. If necessary, add a little more water and apple cider vinegar so that the bones break more.
The idea is that most bones dissolve. Remove the remains that have remained undissolved because your pet cannot eat them.
While the mixture cools, a layer of fat will appear, but it is normal. I leave it to give it to my pets, but if you are going to eat it, you can take it out.
When it is cold, I served enough broth in your pet’s pot to fill it and enjoy it!
A little of this broth can complement the food you already give your pet, but I usually choose a whole day a month in which I give them nothing but broth. This helps them improve their immune system and increase good bacteria in the intestine.
What about the broth you can store in a bag or Tupper and fry it for another day. Or, you can also fry it in buckets to use as prizes or nutritional snacks and super moisturizers for hot days.
The perfect soup has a consistency like jam. If it is a little more liquid, you probably put a lot of water, but you can eat it. Over time you will start to calculate better the amount of water needed according to the amount of bones you use. As for conservation, the broth can be in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and the freezer for up to 6 months.
You can add the leftover bone leftover from the broth in a composter, instead of throwing them in normal trash. Once it has become a fertilizer, these bones provide a lot of nutrition to your plants.

An easy, healthy, and versatile base food.
Bone Broth Recipe for Dogs can be used in several ways, to moisten dry food, moisturize and nourish sick animals, and even for soup for you! It is high in minerals, collagen, and other micronutrients, all easily absorbed.
It is the perfect bridge between food and medicine.
There is not a single recipe to do so. But there are two things that all recipes have in common:
- The incorporation of an acidic liquid. This helps to extract the minerals from the bones more thoroughly. Apple cider vinegar is the most used. Lemon juice can also be used.
- Long cooking time This is necessary to get all the nutrients in the bones. There is no “magic” time, but it is recommended that you cook for 24 hours in a slow cooker (crockpot). It can also be done in conventional pots if monitored.
Start with raw or cooked bones. Be sure to include articulations with cartilage (if you are looking for collagen).
You can use bones that you have stored from your own meals in the freezer, but you must always clean the sauce or other condiments that it could carry so that they do not irritate the digestive system of our dog.
Bird wings and thighs are a good option, both for raw and our leftovers.
If you want to use it as a complete meal and not just as an accompaniment, you have to put enough meat, including that of a whole chicken, chicken or turkey quarters, or any other type of meaty bone.
You can also put meat from other animals (veal, lamb).
If you add a tablespoon of herbs (oregano, basil, rosemary, sage, thyme, fennel), in addition to flavor, we provide nutrients beneficial to our health.
Cover the bones completely with water (about three centimeters above the meat, but not much more, since you have to try to make it thick) and add between 2 and 4 tablespoons of vinegar.
Cover and simmer
Ideally, do it in a slow cooker, called Crock Pot, these are kept for 24 hours at a controlled temperature, do not think you spend a lot, they are designed for that.
If you do not have this pot, you can do it in a conventional one, keeping it for at least 2h (the longer, the better) or in an express pot, where it should be at least 30 minutes.
Before giving it to the dog, remove the bones! If you want, you can remove excess fat, although there may be less than you think.
It is good that a gelatinous texture is achieved. It can be frozen, even in ice cube trays. Hold for about four days in a refrigerator.
Start little by little. If the dog is not accustomed to foods so rich in collagen and nutrients, it can sit badly and cause diarrhea.
If you want to make this broth a health pump, you can incorporate other extra foods (you don’t have to measure them, but you have to use them without abuse).
They can be put in tea bags to extract them without difficulty. And you can add those that are needed for certain specific health problems.
- Algae (a piece of 5 to 12cm)
- Garlic (2-3 teeth)
- Dandelion root
- Astragalus Root
- Burdock Root
- Shiitake mushrooms (dried)
- Reishi mushrooms (dried, rolled)
Besides, use different vegetables (if possible without tubers or very few), but always below 30%, compared to the amount of meat.
- Beet greens
- Green beans
- Sweet potato
- Dandelion leaves
- Fennel root
Give a maximum of 50% as a supplement if you feed your dog with feed. If you feed with natural food, give a maximum of 25%.
- It is rich in minerals easily absorbed.
- Ideal for convalescent puppies or with some nutritional deficiencies.
- Being rich in collagen is also ideal for joint problems or prevention.
- It improves the intestinal lining, making it very useful in digestive problems.
- Reduce inflammation.
- It improves the states of animals in infectious processes.
Bone Broth with Vegetables
About water and apple cider vinegar, I followed the same instructions Bone Broth Recipe for Dogs Basic, but also add these ingredients:
- Bones: as in the previous recipe, you can use bones from different animals or only one.
- Some chopped carrots.
- Two or three chopped celery stalks.
- Fresh peas.
- Some fresh ground garlic (I usually put more or less half a tooth, because, if it is very strong, my cats do not eat the broth).
- Some fresh cut ginger (no more than 2.50 cm for picky cats, with dogs no problem).
- Some pieces of Korean squash (ancho), sweet potato, or two or three chopped parsnips.
- A pinch of a mix of fresh (chopped) herbs from your garden, such as rosemary, parsley, or basil.
I followed the same steps as in the previous recipe to cook the broth. To my dogs and one of the cats, I leave the pieces of vegetables, but to the other cat, I take them out, and I only give the broth with the meat and the skin. Even if you don’t want to eat the vegetables directly, you still benefit from all the nutritional juices left in the broth.
It might leave enough smell, but the broth head and shellfish are super rich in nutrients, minerals, and, most importantly, iodine, so it’s great for your pet and you.
For thousands of years, Chinese medicine, in regions of Asia and the Mediterranean, believes that fish broth is essential in the diet, especially for people or animals suffering from health or thyroid problems. The fish head contains all the important thyroid glands, so if you add it to your broth, anyone who takes it will benefit from the thyroid hormones and the nutrition of the same gland.
The best fish broths are made from non-fatty fish, so, if possible, avoid using salmon and mackerel because their natural oils do not support long cooking times and, in fact, tend to put the rancid broth.
The broth has to be cooked over low heat so that all the nutrients come out of the bones, but the advantage of the fish broth is that it only needs a few hours, much less time than the whole day that the meat bones require.
With regard to fish bones, carcasses, and heads, the best options are halibut, flatfish, flounder, turbot, and bass. You can even add shrimp and shrimp and seafood heads if you like them, as long as you don’t add fatty fish.
There are two ways to cook the fish stock.
1.Put the fish bones and carcasses in a pot of water. The water has to cover 5 or 7 cm. fish. Depending on the amount you put, add between ¼ and 2 cups of vinegar or lemon juice.
Once the broth boils, let it simmer. You can leave it to cook slowly over low heat, but make sure that at some point, you take out the foam that is made up because it usually contains toxins from the fish.
As with the meat broth, you can let it cool like this, or you can add vegetables once the broth starts to boil.
To my pets, I add a simple vegetable mix because, since the taste of the fish is already strong, you have to look for vegetables that complement it, such as carrots and celery. You can also put some pieces of Korean squash to complete the meal, and this is very good for dogs with a lot of physical demand.
2.Saute the mixture in the saucepan with a little butter or olive oil.
Add a small amount of fresh garlic, some cut carrots, and celery and let it simmer. You will notice when they are ready because they will be soft.
Turn the heat up and add the vinegar or lemon juice and let it cook with the vegetables for a few minutes or until the juice has disappeared.
Add the fish bones, carcasses and heads (you can remove the gills if you want, but it is not necessary) and mix it a little, then add enough water to cover the fish.
Let the broth boil. Remove the foam that forms and then lower the heat and let it simmer.
You can leave it on low heat for 2 hours or up to 24, depending on the consistency you want. I usually leave 5 or 6 hours because that’s how I like it.
Be sure to strain the ingredients and fat so that the broth you give your pet does not have any remaining undissolved bone.
Let it cool and give it to your cats and dogs. This broth can also be put in the refrigerator, frozen in bags/toppers or in buckets.
(If you choose to make the ice cubes, I recommend that you use some buckets apart from yours because they can have a smell or taste, and it will be disgusting when you want to put ice on your drink. guests!)
If it is for human consumption, you can put virtually any vegetable you like. But, if you are going to share it with your pet, I suggest that you limit yourself to some basic ones to avoid any toxic vegetables and that you focus on the greens, which have more nutrition.
Put some butter, olive oil or coconut oil in the pot.
Sauté some parsley, basil, garlic and, my secret ingredient, digestive/nutritional yeast. The latter not only keeps those who eat meat at bay (if it is for humans), but it gives more consistency to the broth and gives it a different flavor to that of vegetables alone, and your dog, cat, and hungry human are going to enjoy.
Nutritional yeast provides benefits for your health and that of your pet since it has minerals, vitamins, and some proteins, but in its entirety, it helps boost the immune system. Just make sure you get a good yeast that has not been genetically modified. If you do not find its origin in the package, I suggest you do not use it, because you do not know what you are buying and, generally, the yeast is modified for the worse. Try to buy “Saccharomyces Cerevisiae” natural that has no additives or chemicals added or mixed with any other yeast.
Add chopped vegetables, such as celery, carrots, broccoli, spinach, peas, and mushrooms (note that they are the common ones you always use, because some can be toxic to cats, so limit yourself to the common one).
You can also add Korean squash, squash, sweet potato or zucchini. I usually put only one of these things because otherwise, it thickens a lot.
Zucchini is good for moisturizing your pet, like mushrooms, because they have high water content.
Mix the vegetables with the other ingredients so that the flavors of garlic, parsley, digestive yeast, and basil combine with the vegetables.
Leave it on medium heat for a few minutes to mix the flavors. Then add the water.
Leave it until it boils and then lower the heat. This requires little cooking time, about half an hour to 45 minutes for vegetables to be soft enough to eat, but not too much.
As with the other broths, you can strain it and give it to your pets once it cools, or you can add a little to their usual food.
I usually mix the leftover vegetables to give them the first meals to pets that are eating solid again. Or for street pets who need an extra meal during the day, because it is a good way to give them the nutrition they need in their diet without gaining too much weight while fighting the constant urge to eat.
You can also mix what is leftover with your pet’s usual food if you think it needs a booster or remember that you can freeze them in a bucket.
In addition to the base ingredients, you can add some turmeric because it is an excellent anti-inflammatory and helps the immune system.
To get a slightly different flavor than vegetables alone. Algae are great because they contain all the vitamins, minerals, and trace elements we need. Certain algae are ten times richer in calcium than cow’s milk, have twice as much vitamin C as oranges, and up to 50 times more iron than spinach, so they are a great source of food for animals and humans.
It is a great natural source of vitamin B12, which is usually only in animal products and is an excellent natural antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory food that can be eaten raw or cooked with the broth.
The vegetarian broth works very well to clean your digestive system and that of your dog and helps pets that need to lose weight and, at the same time, have an excellent nutritional source. You just have to keep in mind that, while your dog can spend a couple of days without eating meat, your cat does not, because they are mandatory carnivores and need meat to survive.
